- This is police drama.[3] It deals with a team of officers from the Homicide Department of Lalbazaar, the police headquarters in Kolkata. The story spans across their professional lives, the crimes they solve (and sometimes fail to solve because of various reasons), their personal lives and their relationship with their work and of course the relationships within the team. The protagonist of the season is an Assistant Commissioner named Suranjan. He is in his late forties. He is separated from his wife, has a live-in relationship with a very successful news television anchor, and is deeply revered by his own team. At the beginning, he comes across as a male chauvinist who does not want women to take the lead. But later we know the back story: A young female officer disobeyed him, acted on her own and got brutally murdered by a criminal gang. In retaliation, Suranjan killed seven of their gang. That gang is actively following Suranjan and also shoots at him during the season. A court case is still on. But Suranjan is not the sole focus of the show: There are equally powerful characters around him. There is Gaurav the suave villain of the piece. He is DC of the Port areas, the centre of criminal activities in Kolkata. Gaurav does not look like a villain. He does not act like a villain. His subordinates think he is a very kind and concerned person. But towards the end we can make out that he is a womanizer, a cruel man and has been the mastermind behind many of the crimes in the area. He is a sworn enemy of Suranjan and tries to get Suranjan into trouble at every possible opportunity.
